A west-facing flat, and what it takes to live with the afternoon
The job
An IT-professional couple with a young child, both working in the Financial District.
Living room, master bedroom, children’s room and study. The living room got a dual system — textured linen sheers with blackout curtains behind them — and the bedrooms got true blackout. The glazing faces west and sits high, so motorised roller blinds handle the afternoon without anything being hauled by hand. Finished with MM Foam mattresses, 600 TC linen and pillows, and help finding a sofa.
What it looks like
Warm contemporary: soft greys, warm beige and light oak. Textured linen sheers for the light, charcoal blackout linings for when there should be none.
What we had to sort out
A grey the clients had chosen in the showroom read cooler on the fifteenth floor than it had downstairs. It was re-selected in the flat itself, in the light it would actually live in.
One curtain panel came back about 2% short. It was remade rather than hung.
Four weeks from measurement to installation, with three of those spent choosing fabric.
Before and after
Before. Bare windows with temporary roller blinds, mismatched bed linen, and nothing tying the rooms to each other.
After. Layered treatments in the living room, bedrooms that go properly dark, and bedding and mattresses that match the rest.
