The quickest way to change how a room reads, and the easiest to get wrong — the wall underneath matters more than the paper on it.

Pattern, texture and finish across a range of weights.
Weight is the part nobody asks about and the part that decides how it looks in five years. A heavier paper sits flatter over a wall that is not perfectly true, forgives a seam better, and takes a knock in a hallway without marking. A fine paper on a rough wall shows every flaw the wall has.
Textured and grasscloth
Catches light rather than sitting flat.
best for feature walls, bed heads, rooms with side light
The reason to see it in person rather than on a screen. Grasscloth changes with the light through the day and the seams are visible by design — natural fibre cannot be pattern-matched, so each drop meets the next as a soft join rather than disappearing. People who love it love that; people expecting a flat wall are surprised by it.
Vinyl and washable
Wipes clean, which is what a hallway or a reception wall needs.
best for clinics, offices, homes with young children
A surface layer that takes a damp cloth without the print lifting. Worth it anywhere a hand touches the wall — beside a light switch, along a corridor, at child height — because that is where a paper wall fails first, and it fails in a patch you cannot replace without redoing the drop.
Peelable
Comes off sound paint cleanly. Costs more and lasts less.
best for rented flats
It comes away from sound paint without taking the paint with it, which is the whole point in a rented flat. Two conditions: the paint underneath has to be properly bonded, and it has to be genuinely dry. On a fresh or chalky wall it can still lift the surface.
Lining paper
Goes on first where an older wall is too uneven for a fine paper.
A plain paper hung first to give the finish paper a flat, even surface to sit on. It is the step that gets skipped to save a day, and it is why a good paper on a poor wall looks poor. On an older Banjara Hills wall it is usually the difference between a wall that reads as new and one that reads as papered over.
Which one do you need?
“The wall is damp or was damp”
Fix the damp first. Paper over it and it will bubble and lift within a season, and you’ll have paid twice. Panelling on battens is the alternative where a wall can’t be made perfectly dry.
“The plaster is brand new”
It needs weeks to cure, not days. Paper it too early and moisture pushes through and lifts the seams — it looks fine at handover and fails a month later.
“I want it in a rented flat”
Peelable wallpaper. Ask the landlord in writing first: removing conventional wallpaper takes the top layer of paint with it, which is a deposit argument nobody wins.
“How much do I need?”
More than the bare wall area, because the pattern has to line up across each drop. Ask us for the repeat size before you buy — a large repeat can add a fifth to the quantity.
“I have only seen it on a screen”
Then you have not seen it. A screen is backlit and a wall is not, so a paper that looks warm on a phone can read grey in a north room, and texture does not photograph at all. Come to the showroom on Road No. 12 and look at samples in daylight, against the light your own room actually gets. It is twenty minutes and it is the step that stops a wall being papered twice.
