Which one do you need?
“What size cloth does my table need?”
Measure the tabletop in inches and add the drop you want on each side — around 10 inches for everyday, more for formal. So a 60 by 36 table wants roughly an 80 by 56 cloth. Too small is the most common mistake and it always looks it.
“I don’t want to cover the wood”
A runner and mats. You keep the table you paid for and still get the layer, and it is far less to launder.
“It’s for a restaurant and the laundry is brutal”
Buy commercial rather than domestic linen, and buy at least three sets per table so there is always one in the wash and one on the shelf. Domestic cotton will not survive the cycle.
“Everything stains”
A wipe-clean or coated finish for daily use, and keep the fabric cloth for occasions. A mid-tone or a pattern also hides a great deal that plain white will not.
