Tracks and rods are stocked both manual and motorised, so this is a choice rather than a special order. It earns its cost on windows that are genuinely hard to operate — double-height glazing, a track behind a fixed sofa, or eight panels that nobody is going to draw by hand twice a day.
What we supply and fit
The motor sits in the track. Opens and closes on a remote or an app.
best for double-height glazing and long living-room runs
The motor is inside the track itself. One movement draws the full width — no cords to pull and nothing to reach for at a window you cannot get to.
Battery or wired, one blind or a whole room together.
best for high windows, stairwells, and rooms where several blinds should move together
Each blind carries its own motor. Grouped, one press raises or lowers every window in the room at the same time.
No wiring, so it retrofits into a finished room. Recharged every few months.
best for anything being added after the interiors are done
The motor runs off a rechargeable pack that lifts out to charge. Nothing has to be chased into a finished wall, which is what makes it the retrofit answer.
Needs a point near the track. Decide this before false ceiling goes up.
best for new builds and full renovations
A permanent feed means the motor never needs charging. The only requirement is deciding where the point goes before the ceiling closes over it.
Handset as standard; phone and voice control where the system supports it.
best for anyone who would rather not walk to the window
The handset comes with the motor. The same system can sit inside a phone app, or answer to voice, where the home already has a hub that supports it.
Close at sunset, open at seven, or one button for a whole floor.
best for daily routines, and for looking lived-in while the house is empty
Curtains and blinds can move to a schedule, or several motors can be grouped so one press runs a whole floor or a whole morning.
Which one do you need?
“The window is double height and nobody can reach the curtains”
This is the case motorisation is actually for. A wand or a cord on a track that high is awkward and eventually gets left open, which defeats the point of having curtains at all.
“The interiors are finished — can I still motorise?”
Yes, with battery units. No chasing walls and no new points. The trade-off is recharging every few months rather than never thinking about it.
“We’re building now. What do we need to leave for it?”
A power point near the track, above the false ceiling line, before the ceiling closes. It costs almost nothing at that stage and is disruptive to add afterwards. Tell your electrician early.
“Is it worth it for a normal bedroom window?”
Usually not, and we’ll say so. On a window you can comfortably reach, a good track and a proper pull are quieter, cheaper and have nothing to go wrong.
“What happens if the motor fails?”
Ask before buying, not after: most systems can be pulled by hand in a power cut, but not all of them. It is the question people forget until it matters.
